What a special morning with my littlest !!!

May the Force be with Milo!

Happy birthday, Milo! We are so proud of the sweet, kind, hard working, loyal, faith-filled,  clever, musical young man you are becoming! What a blessing you are to our family!

Thank you to all who traveled and sent messages across the galaxies to our Jedi on his 8th birthday!

Ready to slow down.

Not one single day has dragged by this year. I can not believe it, but this has been the first year for me that has been an absolute blur.

I remember it all. It's just that it went by so fast.

Everyone experienced growing pains this year.  Our eldest began at a new school, adjusting for the first time to having 7 classes and even more teachers, and joining the orchestra and the GT program. Our middle child started to find his voice in second grade, being at school without his older brother to help him out for the first time.  Our youngest began a new preschool and so many new people came into our lives.  Bronius began to work at a co-op office out of the house for a change of scenery. And I began an official part time job (which I LOVE)... but it's something I have not done for ten years! Outside of 9-5 hours, we have been teaching marriage preparation, sitting on a school board committee, teaching faith formation classes, attending sacramental preparation classes and altar serving trainings, volunteering for field trips and class parties, attending book clubs when we can, running to basketball practices, soccer practices and piano lessons.

There has not been a whole lot of time to stop and smell the roses, and I find myself pining away for summer.  While I do thrive in habit and routine, I do not enjoy feeling herded like cattle and being constantly moved from one thing to the next without buffers in between. This year has been sadly lacking in buffers!

As I reflect on this school year, little glimpses come to mind. Jonas' legs suddenly looking longer and with a frightening absence of chubbiness as he climbs the playground equipment at preschool. Milo suddenly using words like "catapult" as a verb, when at times I wondered if he could even spell our last name. Dominic's voice sounding so small and far away when he would call me from the front office to pick him up from after school clubs. When did we have a child old enough to be calling us from somewhere other than the next room???

I wanted to go up to the schools and read to my kids classes this year.  I wanted to bake cookies on Friday afternoons when they got home from school. I wanted to go on more field trips and meet them for lunch more in their cafeterias. Where did the school year go???!!!

Commence hyperventilating.

But back to the big picture. I am so grateful for the good year my family has had....so much growth, so much change.  We have had wonderful teachers and coaches, and have made some very nice new friends.  In the midst of it all, we still managed dinner together at the table at least 6 nights a week, family friday night in, and weekly library and park trips.  All of these things helped us remain connected, and for that I am thankful! But I do miss the luxury of having time stretch out into the horizon, the feeling of spontaneity, the blissful lack of awareness of time ticking all around us.

Summer can't have come a moment too soon. :)  I'm ready to slow life down again!
