Houston visit
We dropped Senele off at the airport and took advantage of President's Day to enjoy a holiday weekend in Houston. We went to the zoo, the botanical gardens, and enjoyed time with family and friends!

Update on the brothers 3 - Jonas goes first!
Today is a sick day, the tummy bug is bugging Dominic and Milo (and hopefully no one else!) They have been parked on the couches all day, my poor little guys, with their sick cups. We've read stories, and played cards, and of course watched an obscene amount of t.v. today.
And because of that, today is actually a day I could tackle some of my infamous "to do's" - in short spurts - but I am choosing to blog...mostly, because it's more important. Actually, fixing our file system is equally as important, but I digress.....this may end up in 3 parts, so bear with me please! Pictures will be added in soon.
Jonas ~
Jonas is 10 weeks old now, and he's "a sweet little guy," as Milo comments often. He seems so easy going to me. I guess I've had 3 pretty easy babies, but that relates more to my expectation of babies - I expect that they do not want to be put down for longer than a few minutes when awake, and I expect that they simply will not sleep longer than 2 hrs at a time at night or day. :) Voila, my definition of an easy baby. ;) I might add that I'm only blogging with him in my baby carrier, too. :)
He's becoming very curious about his surroundings now at 2.5 months, he responds to sounds around him with the "startle reflex," and pays close attention to what his brothers are doing. He loves just hearing them talk! He smiles when talk and sing with him, or bring him toys. He's movin' and groovin' too, kicking those legs, flailing those arms, with a big proud smile! His favorite word is "a goo," and the boys giggle every time he says it.
Apparently he's a beast baby, he weighs 13 lbs. I will readily admit to nursing on demand, mostly to keep the peace around here. :) I have no clue how often he eats during the night or day, I just offer every other hour or when he's fussin'. I think he's going through a growth spurt now, actually, since I saw the clock at 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 last night! I know there's light at the end of the tunnel though. Some nights he'll have a 3 hour chunk. And he co-sleeps with us so really, no one fully wakes up at all. Truth be told, I love to snuggle up to him at night, it's my favorite part of the day.
With each child we add to the family, I focus on a new word to help myself adjust to the demands of motherhood. With Jonas, it has been "accept." It has been so much easier to go with the flow, accept the chaos, accept the lack of control over sleep and the fact that I never really get to finish as task or a sentence even....I didn't do this with the other 2 as newborns and therefore I don't remember much of it, and what little I remember is stressful. I really want to enjoy Jonas, and the phases that the big 2 are in right now, without worrying about so much.

Milo update
Milo ~
Milo is 2 years and 9 months. It's hard to believe Dominic was almost this age when Milo was born. Milo has had to grow up faster than I'd like. Having my hands full with a newborn has been harder on me than on him - he has really adapted (it was hard at first for him) but it makes me sad that I can't always rush to comfort or help him like I used to. All part of growing up, I guess :(
He's a joy to be at home with. Milo is just our everlasting sweetie! Dominic was a lot of fun and I totally treasured our special 1 on 1 time, but I always felt I had to entertain him (which may have just been my issue and not his, in retrospect). Whomever's issue it was, he quite frankly exhausted me. :) Milo is content driving a little truck around my feet most of the day. :) He loves to read stories on the couch with me. We play blocks, and he'll go off and play in his kitchen and with his cars. He is obsessed with Caillou, he loves the little dude and even re-enacts episodes with his cars (a Mommy car and a Caillou car, for example). He is funny about Jonas - I know he loves him, he'll be helpful occasionally, but I try so hard not to focus on Jonas when I'm with him so that no rivalry begins to brew. So he doesn't resent him, but he doesn't think Jonas is all that, either. :)
He still naps, about 2 hrs in the afternoon, and in his crib. When Jonas sleeps better at night, we plan to move him to the crib and Milo will roomie up with Dominic. Milo is still our mega-eater...he looooves food. Yet another way he's different from big bro, who literally lives on bread alone.
We have a playgroup that meets once a week, the older siblings are friends and now the younger ones are buds too. They had a Hot Shots soccer class in the Fall and we have another one in the Spring. These friends have been such a blessing in my motherhood, and they make the days fun!
The twos can be trying, but we're almost done - we'll see what awaits us in the three's! :) Milo will be starting Montessori school in the Fall, 3 mornings a week, and I'm excited for him. On one hand, I'm sad about letting him go because he's so sweet to have at home, but on the other hand, I know how excited he is about school and he's ready, even if I'm not!
Milo is like chicken soup for the soul - he loves to cuddle, is easy to be around, easy to discipline (when he does anything wrong which is pretty rare) easy to please and generally just content with life. Milo has been like breathing a gigantic sigh of relief in my life, he has just been assurance that we're on the right track as parents!

Dominic update
Dominic is 5 years and 7 months now. He is still our spark plug - keeping us on our toes constantly! He loves school. And even though I suffered through a huge amount of anxiety about whether or not to home-school him, there is a happy ending to the story - he has really adjusted well to public school. I was nervous about his transition from Montessori education to traditional education - the same structure is in place, it's just that he had more choices in Montessori. And for a strong-willed child, choices are paramount. :) But it's all worked out better than I could have hoped and prayed and enough about that!
We LOVE having the school in our "back yard," wow. This is the quality of life that we hoped for. I share carpool with a neighbor and friend who has been a huge blessing in our transition to 3 kids. It's nice to not have to rush the little two out of their naps to pick Dominic up every day.
Dominic is maturing, slowly and steadily, we're very proud of him. He was the youngest and the second smallest in his class, but he's a trooper and he knows how to make up for lost time. He adores his teacher, and he has good classmates, they have really bonded and become a family! My only regret is not getting to go over to volunteer more, since I can't bring the younger 2 along.
Dominic genuinely loves being a big brother to Jonas - he is almost smothering with his attention to the baby. He always jumps to help him and what an unexpected blessing this has been. It's not that I don't expect Dominic to do good things of his own volition, it's more that the instant he senses we expect something, he seems to do the opposite. So this has been really nice :)
I love my conversations with Dominic. The other night we talked about icebergs, which led to a conversation about the Titanic, and how ships sink and how sunken treasure is found. It was awesome. He's super interested in electricity and science, making inventions, and doing art projects (oh how I hope that doesn't go away!) Dominic loves to be silly and tell silly jokes, and he enjoys when we play word games or math games with him. He is signed up for Little League, and we'll see how he likes baseball. It's often hard to get him to stick with something, and we never know when to keep pushing and when to just let him lead us to his interests. I know for a fact he'll be into Tae Kwon Do, but we wanted to wait another year for that - no sense in introducing potential aggresive behaviors until he's actually DEALING with aggressive behaviors. We're still hopeful about the violin - he has said he wants to be taught by a teacher, so we'll see where that goes!
Dominic makes me the Mom who I am to the other two - he makes me the best I can be. Since he has tested me beyond my strengths and well into my weaknesses, I have grown so tremendously. He makes me want to be the best I can be. I hope we can encourage him to strive as much as he encourages us! :)

Happy Birthday to Bronius!
We enjoyed pizza and cake with Senele, and the Corder family tonight to celebrate big B's life. Don't know where I'd be without him. I love you, Bronius, Happy Birthday!
I had to include the cute picture of Milo & Dominic reading on the couch together. Doesn't happen all that often without squabbling ;)

Snow Day and Birthday dinner 2011
Friday started off in a fantastic way - it snowed! It was beautiful. School was canceled, so we played in the snow, made some valentines, watched a movie and made fun and silly foods to eat. In the evening, we had our birthday dinner at Messina Hof, our local winery. We hadn't been in years, so it was such a treat! We had a small group this year, partly due to the weather, and partly due to the fact that we're just getting old! :) It was so nice to be warm in the restaurant, enjoying wine and delicious food while spending time with friends. Try the port sundae if you ever go and have dessert, mmmm! :) Thank you Lord for such a happy, good day.

Happy Birthday to Mama Jules
:) Today's my birthday! (I'll spare you my age, no really, it's no problem at all)
I have enjoyed breakfast in bed, a pedicure with my neighbor, tons of notes from friends, a call from my parents, dinner at my Mother-in-law's, a sweet card from my sister, and now I'm going to have a glass a wine and watch a movie with my husband. We have a dinner at the end of the week to look forward to with friends for our shared February birthday celebration and I can not wait. It may even snow! February remains my favorite month of all. :)

100th Day of School
I went in to Dominic's class today to help with the 100th Day of School Celebration. It was so much fun, the kids had a blast!
I can't wait for another "valley" of downtime so I can get back to blogging but we're definitely in our "peak" season over here! I miss writing and I really miss blog-hopping. But I wouldn't trade it for the baby cuddling ever! :)

Austin day trip
We took advantage of the holiday weekend to visit some friends in Austin, the Gutierrez family, who also just welcomed their third baby into their world! We had a wonderful lunch with them and then spent the afternoon at Zilker Park. The weather was beautiful. We played in the park, rode the train and enjoyed Sno Cones afterwards. Can't wait to go back again!

Baby Jonas is 6 weeks!
Well 6 weeks have arrived! I wasn't sure we'd ever get here, but we did! :)
Jonas is gurgling and smiling so much this month, he looks like he is laughing sometimes when we chat with him, especially when the boys do. He is saying "a goo" and is eating like a monster! I am not sure of how much he weighs, but he's a healthy little guy!
Sleep....ahhhh.....what is that? I've forgotten. He sleeps just about the same as the other two kiddos did in the beginning...awake every 2-3 hours (and even less during a growth spurt). We tried the bassinet for awhile at night and with all the grunting and fidgeting he does, and spitting out the paci, it's just easier to keep him in bed with us. We at least feel like we're getting more rest. Occasionally he'll be up from 3 am - 4 am, not fussy, but just not wanting to go back to sleep. Shortly after that Milo wakes up screaming with a nightmare and then an hour after that, the alarm goes off to wake Dominic up for school. It feels like Groundhog Day!
When he starts to sleep for longer stretches at night, I will plan to transition him to Milo's crib and then Milo will move in with big bro Dominic. That will be interesting, considering that Milo TALKS from 1.5 hour before falling asleep at night, and Dominic usually passes out within 5 mins. We'll have to stagger the bedtimes I think.
Apparently I have a fairly easy baby, as my sister pointed out, since at 6 weeks even though I'm not sleeping well, I have time to email, cook in spurts, and make small attempts at laundry....in between reading with the kids and nursing on the couch, which is largely what I do all day :)
Everyone is healthy, and we are all really enjoying Jonas together. The big boys are being so helpful and so sweet with him. And this week in particular, they have been playing so well together which has been such a blessing to me. Even though Bronius and I feel like zombies, we appreciate how having a new baby in the house forces us to slow down and read more, and be less productive (sometimes we have an unspoken competitiveness about who can be the most industrious!)Mostly we just like having a good excuse to hold the baby and have midnight snacks together and watch Classic movies on TCM, though :)
Life is good, Lord! Thank you for my life.

Women's reflection and rainy evening at home
I had a wonderful opportunity to go to a day long women's retreat this weekend. It did wonders for my soul, quite literally. :) I came home recharged with purpose and joy in my vocation. Here are some pictures of us enjoying our warm home and music on a cold and rainy evening tonight. We are spending a lot of time at home these days and I'm so glad that the boys have been content with that!

Party of Five
Jonas is 4 weeks this week, and I can not believe a month has gone by since he joined our family. The transition from 2 to 3 kids has been completely chaotic, but somehow not as catastrophic as I thought it would be. :) I'm not so good with handling change, but I'm learning with each child to be better about that!
Jonas is such a sweet natured baby. He has become very alert this month. He is focusing on our faces and already we've noticed a love affair with the ceiling fan. ]Gone are the days of the long newborn naps...this week in particular he's taking shorter and shorter naps. It is my prayer he is starting to organize his day/night sleep. :) He's a chunk! He's 9 lbs and some ounces. He eats A LOT. Maybe it's because he's the third baby, but I'm not worried about spoiling him this time. I baby wear him a lot, Bronius and I hold him in the evenings, and he sleeps in the bed with us (mostly because he wakes every 2 hrs or LESS to eat) and it's just easier this way for all of us. Nights are rough right now. Milo has started waking with bad dreams every night, and Dominic will occasionally call out too. So the night is a busy time, and not my favorite. Hopefully in a month or so, Jonas will be sleeping a little longer. Please, please, please oh Lord!
Milo is definitely in the infamous twos. In one moment he can be the most adorable, irresistible child, and in the next instant he is having a meltdown of epic proportions about something that is ridiculous to adults but of the utmost importance to a toddler, like opening a sippy cup by himself or turning off the water faucet by himself. He is always talking at the top of his lungs, happy or sad, and is generally bouncing and climbing wherever he goes. All this said...he's still much milder than his older brother was at this age! Milo loves to play with his trucks, cars and trains. Lately he is gotten into painting and play doh. He loves to read books with me, particularly Curious George, and I've enjoyed taking out some of Dominic's puzzles and games and doing them with Milo. Even though Milo tends to be more dramatic and dwells on little things, we really enjoy his easy-to-please temperament. It has been a blessing that he knows how to self-entertain much more than big bro was able to. He is not overly jazzed about being a big brother, but he bears no hostility to Jonas. Sometimes I will catch him looking for a pacifier for Jonas or attempting to gently rock him in his swing ;)
Dominic started back at school today. I really enjoyed having him home over Christmas break, especially since we needed to bond as a family. However, Milo and Dominic drove us NUTS over the break. Even with brand new Christmas toys and fairly frequent family visitors, they were at each other's throats. To be honest, Milo is the main antagonizer, but Dominic definitely had his moments too. At any rate...I miss having him at home but I wouldn't trade the peace for anything! He was very happy and excited to start school again too. Dominic is SO SWEET with Jonas, he LOVES him. He rushed in the front door today and couldn't wait to hold, kiss and snuggle with the baby. Often times Jonas will begin to fuss and Dominic is the FIRST to get to him, to pat him or rock him or find a pacifier. It is so gratifying for me to witness this, since this is the very reason we decided to have more children! :) Dominic is starting to teach himself pieces on the piano. He is still obsessed with computer games, so we try to temper this with required fresh air time and other creative projects. He is really into spelling words aloud and doing "word puzzles" with us, and we're reading chapter books at night. Right now we're reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. and I'm pleased to see his growing interest in math - which did NOT come from me. I truly hope he doesn't struggle with it as I did!
Bronius and I......well.....we're doing as well as can be expected with little to no sleep. :) Patience is precious and rare commodity, but we are praying for each other and working as a team. I guess I could not conceive of how different our family dynamic would be by adding a newborn baby, but the outnumbering effect is definitely in full swing. The big boys have bonded together - for better AND worse - and sometimes we become totally invisible to them. Things are going undone, like clothes piling up in bedrooms and the checkbook not getting balanced and milk not getting bought.....and I just take a deep breath and remind myself this is temporary. What's important is that we are all healthy, we have a roof over our heads and food in our tummies and our only goal each day is to love each other - the best we can.
I am amazed we are a family of five now! We are so very blessed.

Uncle Steve's visit
My brother came all the way out of a blizzard from post-holiday NYC to meet his youngest nephew Jonas. Do I love this guy or what? Hard to believe that 20 years ago we were driving each other (and my Mom) nuts with non stop fighting. Turns out siblings really do become your best friends later on in life. :) Love you, Steve, you're a super uncle!
